A Semi Tractor Trailer Accident Takes the Life of a Tennessee Man on the Western Kentucky Parkway

A 70 year old Tennessee Man was killed on the Western Kentucky Parkway last Monday after being struck by a Semi Tractor Trailer Truck.

Joseph E. Litz of Clarksville, had stopped to tighten his gas cap when the Semi Truck hit his car and trailer before hitting another car. The accident happened near Mile Marker 114 of the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Litz and his wife were traveling to Louisville to attend the Kentucky State Fair.

This story sparks more discussion of the need for new laws concerning vehicles that are pulled off of the side of highways and Interstates. I recently wrote an article on a newly signed law in the state of Illionois called "Shibs Law" that allows Emergency Responder to close Highways and Interstates when duty calls.

In this case Mr. Litz was not an Emergency Responder but still should have been afforded some protection while stopped on the side of the road. A Potential New Law for Kentucky could require all Motorist to pull into the left hand lane when they see another motorist stopped on the side of the road. It is a Law that motorist must pull into the left lane when they see a Police Officer pulled off the road.

The need for this type of legislation is underscored when we see preventable accidents, such as this case. It appears that this accident was caused by a Professional Driver who was inattentive to a motorist pulled to the side of the road.

I would be interested in any comments on this issue and the need for some sort of law protecting motorist pulled to the sides of the roads.

Pike County Coal Truck Driver Kenneth Mounts is Fatally Pinned Under Truck

Kenneth Mounts, 42, of Pike County Kentucky was fatally pinned under his truck Monday Night in Pike County. This Tragic Accident happened as the Truck started to roll. Mounts attempted to climb back into the truck and stop it from rolling. When he did, he fell and was pinned under the Coal Truck.

Louisville Kentucky Police Arrest Man in Connection with Hit and Run Accident

Louisville Police have arrested Keneille Finch in connection with a Hit and Run Accident that left two girls dead. Finch has been charged with two counts of Murder in connection with the deaths.

The police had pulled Finch's car over shortly before the wreck, when he took off and later left the car abandoned. He is charged with running a red light and stricking the children of Angie Wadlington.

With Angie Waddlington was her four year old, Riley Jane Lawrence and five year old Claudia Wadlington. Both were killed but Angie Wadlington was not seriously injured.

It is possible that Finch could face another charge for leaving the scene of an Injury Accident. This law was signed just this summer by Governor Steve Beshear and now makes leaving the scene of an Injury Accident a Felony.

Western Kentucky Auto Accident Turns Deadly as SUV Rolls Over on Interstate 24

A Kentucky SUV Auto Accident turned deadly on Thursday in Western Kentucky. Ruth Choate of Princeton was killed when her SUV Rolled Over after leaving Intestate 24 near Cadiz.

Choate's Passengers Juanita Hollowell and Sylvia Hopper of Princeton were flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Tennessee where they are listed in Stable Condition.

Choate was pronounced dead at the scene from Multiple Blunt Force Trauma Injuries. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Choate Family and our best wishes on a speedy recovery for Juanita Hollowell and Sylvia Hopper.

Whitco Co. Stadium Light Poles Recalled

A nationwide alert was recently issued by the CPSC warning facility managers and school officials to inspect outdoor stadium light poles manufactured by Whitco co. because the poles can crack or fall over, posing a risk of serious injury to bystanders.

Nine incidents of the poles falling, including one that went through the roof of a school gym has been reported to the agency so far. While most of the incidents have occurred in Texas, the poles have been installed in other states as well.

All Whitco LP stadium poles should be inspected immediately by a qualified professional to reduce the risk of additional falling poles. If there is any signs of deterioration, cracks or factures, the affected poles should be repaired/replaced immediately.

Caldwell County Woman Injured In Tractor-Trailer Accident

A Caldwell County woman, 30, was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Hospital Sunday evening after her vehicle crashed underneath a tractor-trailer on Interstate 24.

She was traveling west on Interstate 24 when she crossed the median near the Oak Grove exit.

The driver of the oncoming tractor-trailer was unable to avoid the accident, but he was not injured in the crash. The woman has been listed in critical condition.

2-Year-Old Dies In Hot Car

An article on WPSDLocal6.com reports that a 2-year-old little boy is dead after being left in a car by his grandma.

Linda Long was charged with Reckless Homicide after police found the child in the car. Temperatures that afternoon were in the 80's. Madison Nose died of Hyperthermia while his grandmother was at work at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Death of Football Player Results in Lawsuit

Glenna Crockett and Jeffrey Gilpin, parents of 15-year-old Max Gilpin, filed a Wrongful-Death lawsuit at the Jefferson Circuit court after their son collapsed at football practice. He was later pronounced dead.

The lawsuit names the coaches of Pleasure Ridge Park High School, which includes: head football coach, Jason Stinson, Bobby Deacon, Steve Deacon, Jason Hiser and Jason Cook.

Kentucky State Representative Killed In Car Wreck

Kentucky State Representative Larry Belcher, 61, died when his truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer that had stopped in a construction zone.

Belcher was the Kentucky State Representative from Bullitt County. He was driving north on Interstate 65 when the crash occurred. Police report that he died at the scene.

Deadly Crashes Over the Weekend

Kentucky state police are investigating three separate crashes that occurred this weekend, starting September 27.

The first crashed happened in Marion, Ill. when the vehicle crashed into a utility pole. The driver, 19-year-old Noah Lammert, was given a ticket for improper lane usage and driving under the influence. The two passengers, Noah Saffelder and Erik Schneider, were killed.

The second crash happened in Trigg County when the driver of the vehicle lost control and left the road, hitting a tree. The driver, Douglas Nailor, and passenger, Timothy Adkins, were dead at the scene. The other, Timothy Kenner, was at Jenny Stewart Hospital and later transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center.

The third crash happened when a motorcycle collided with a horse. The animal and the driver, Garrett Warfield, were killed. The child passenger was taken to a Missouri hospital.
