Kentucky Highway Closed Following Fatal Car Crash

An early morning car accident closed down an Eastern Kentucky highway for over two hours.

At about 7 a.m. this morning, two vehicles crashed on US 23 next to the Highway 80 Intersection, according to officials with the Prestonsburg Police Department.

A 19-year-old man of Flat Gap was traveling north on US 23 when he crossed the center line and struck another vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man, of Salyersville.

A third vehicle was struck by flying debris from the accident, said Prestonsburg Police Chief. Three people were transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center.

One driver was killed while the third driver was not injured in the accident.

The accident is under investigation. Police believe heavy fog may have been a contributing factor to the accident. They ask anyone with information that may have witnessed the crash to please contact them.

Kentucky State Representative Killed In Car Wreck

Kentucky State Representative Larry Belcher, 61, died when his truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer that had stopped in a construction zone.

Belcher was the Kentucky State Representative from Bullitt County. He was driving north on Interstate 65 when the crash occurred. Police report that he died at the scene.

Deadly Crashes Over the Weekend

Kentucky state police are investigating three separate crashes that occurred this weekend, starting September 27.

The first crashed happened in Marion, Ill. when the vehicle crashed into a utility pole. The driver, 19-year-old Noah Lammert, was given a ticket for improper lane usage and driving under the influence. The two passengers, Noah Saffelder and Erik Schneider, were killed.

The second crash happened in Trigg County when the driver of the vehicle lost control and left the road, hitting a tree. The driver, Douglas Nailor, and passenger, Timothy Adkins, were dead at the scene. The other, Timothy Kenner, was at Jenny Stewart Hospital and later transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center.

The third crash happened when a motorcycle collided with a horse. The animal and the driver, Garrett Warfield, were killed. The child passenger was taken to a Missouri hospital.

Son McCracken County Attorney in Critical Condition After Paducah Kentucky Auto Accident

Shad Boaz, 21, is in critical condition after an Auto Accident on Olivet Church Road in Paducah Kentucky. Read News Story and Watch Video here.

Boaz was on his way to work at the McCracken County Road Department when his SUV ran off the side of the road and struck a tree. Boaz is a student at Murray State University and Graducated from St. Mary High School in Paducah.

He was transported last night from Lourdes Hopsital in Paducah to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. His condition was listed as Critical.

He is the son of McCracken County Attorney Dan Boaz. My thoughts and prayers go out to Shad, Dan and the Boaz family. Dan was very instrumental in my progress as a young attorney.

Woman Charged After Wreck With 3-Year Old Daughter

Hope Jones, of Metropolis, Illinois, was seen driving her vehicle uncontrollably just before she crashed into a tree stump and then a light pole.

Riding in the vehicle with her were her two daughters, one of which was rushed to Lourdes Hospital and later airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. Alexis Ponce is in critical condition due to severe head trauma.

Jones is being charged with driving on a suspended license and no insurance.

Western Kentucky Auto Accident Turns Deadly as SUV Rolls Over on Interstate 24

A Kentucky SUV Auto Accident turned deadly on Thursday in Western Kentucky. Ruth Choate of Princeton was killed when her SUV Rolled Over after leaving Intestate 24 near Cadiz.

Choate's Passengers Juanita Hollowell and Sylvia Hopper of Princeton were flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Tennessee where they are listed in Stable Condition.

Choate was pronounced dead at the scene from Multiple Blunt Force Trauma Injuries. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Choate Family and our best wishes on a speedy recovery for Juanita Hollowell and Sylvia Hopper.

Kentucky Drunk Driving Wrecks Part II

This is the second in a Series on Kentucky DUI or Drunk Driving Injury Accidents. Upon the completion of Part I, I recieved an email from a Client asking what all could be considered DUI? The question was, does the Negligent Party have to be under the influence of Alcohol or can it be another Drug??

This is a great Question. Most people think that if they are involved in a Kentucky Car Wreck and the Negligent Driver is given a DUI, that the Negligent party has had too much to drink. This is not always the case.

Drivers can get a DUI in Kentucky without ever consuming a drop of Alcohol. Drivers can be cited and later convicted on DUI Charges in the following situations:

1. They can be under the influence of Illegal Drugs. This can include Cocaine or most often under the influence of marijuana.
2. They can be under the influence of Prescription Drugs. Many times Prescription Drug use alone can prompt a DUI Charge but often Prescription Drugs mixed with Alcohol can lead to very serious accidents and injuries.
3. They can be under the influence of Over the Counter Drugs. Yes, this is true. Many times you can read on the label of these type medications that taking these can impair your ability to drive. The most common over the counter DUI's are usually Allergy and Cold Medicines.

Being under the influence of Drugs is treated in much the same manner by the Police Officers as Being under the Influence of Alcohol. Most all of the signs are the same but the smell can be one of marijuana and not alcohol that gives the officer the Probable Cause to investigate further.

In order for the Commonwealth to prove that a Negligent Party was under the influence of drugs, they will need a blood or urine test of the accused. Alcohol can be proven by Blood, Breath or Urine Tests. It is important to note that DUI's of all sorts carry the same punishement and penalties. Furthermore, DUI's that result in Kentucky Injury Cases make these type of cases worth more money to the injured party. More on this in a later series!

Collision With Fire Truck Takes the Life of Madisonville's Michelle Cline

A tragic wreck between an SUV and a Fire Truck on Saturday took the life of Michelle Cline of Madisonville, Kentucky.

The Fire Truck reportedly got onto the Shoulder and in an effort to correct its course slammed into the SUV driven by Cline. Cline was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shelby Gray of Louisville Killed in Kentucky Truck Accident with Metropolitan District Sewer Truck

Shelby Gray, 9, of Louisville, was killed yesterday in her School Bus Stop after being hit by a Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District Truck. Read Story Here.

Multiple Blunt Force Trauma was listed as the cause of death of the Maupin Elementary Fourth Grader.

Gray had been waiting in her Grandmother's car to avoid the cold and rain. She was hit when she crossed the street going to the school bus stop.

No Criminal Charges are expected to be filed against the Driver of the Sewer Truck.
