A recall on 6 million faulty tire stem valves give every vehicle owner and driver reason to worry.

These faulty valves can lead to serious accidents in the long run if not replaced, which is the only guarantee for safety. At low speeds, the valves can cause flat tires. At higher speeds, however, heat builds up in the tire causing it to fall apart. This can lead to loss of control and potentially fatal accidents.

If you don't want to replace the valves, you need to check the stems very carefully for cracks. If you see any, pour soapy water over them and watch for bubbles to surface. If they do, the valves need to be replaced immediately.

Any local auto shop can give you information on the valves. Go wherever you normally service your tires, and if they can't do the job, it's important that you find someone that can. It's your responibilty to do your part and make the roads a safer place to drive.
