Young Adults Without Health Insurance

Due to the fact that most young adults are employed part-time rather than full-time, and that their employers are more likely NOT to provide medical insurance, most adults around the ages of 20 and 30 must go without.

A recent article on KaiserNetwork.org talks about a study in the Courier-Journal stating that almost a third of the residents of Kentucky (and Indiana) are without health insurance. The article also states that most of the adults can’t afford it, while the other part of them simply find other things to spend their money on.

Girl Dead After Severe Staph Infection

McKenna Brooke Hatchett, a 14-year old from George Rogers Clark County High School, is dead after a severe Staph Infection.

She was hospitalized after she received a bruise on her hip in soccer practice early last week. Clark County School Superintendent, Ed Musgrove, sent home letters to parents about the cause of Mckenna’s death. All areas of the school that the girl came into contact with have been thoroughly disinfected and cleaned.

Men Over 55 Risk Fathering Children With Bipolar Disorder

A recent study from the Karolinski Institute tells us that children are more likely to develop Bipolar Disorder, or manic-depressive syndrome, if the father is older in years, particularly over 55.

Compared with other men who are in their 20s, men over 55 have a 37% chance of fathering a child with a Bipolar Disorder. The Disorder typically surfaces in late adolescence or early adulthood. The early onset of the disease has been associated with a link to genetics.

The original study is published in the Archives of General Psychiatry.

Death- How To Make It Through...

I recently read an article on InjuryBoard called "Death In the Family - What to Do When a Loved One Dies". I think that this article carries a good message for all of those who have Lost someone Near and Dear to their Hearts.

Death is a difficult thing to deal with. There is an extemely big gap to deal with when a Loved One is there one day and is gone the next... never to return again. The article walks you through some steps to deal with the overwhelming grief that comes with Death.

1) Decide on a funeral home and Speak to the Director.

2) Gather your loved one’s important papers and advise your loved one’s attorney of the death.

3) Contact the Social Security Administration (if your funeral director hasn’t already.)

4) Contact all insurance companies and notify them of the policyholder’s death.

5) Contact the Veteran’s Administration if your relative was a member of the armed services.

These steps must be taken care of before you can finally slow down long enough to pull yourself through the hard times. Also, try not to forget that there are others dealing with the same grief you are and that you don't have to do it alone.

Jogging Can Add Years to Your Life.....I've Waited for This One

My friend and Associate at Injuryboard, Jane Akre, just wrote an article that I have been waiting on. Jogging (for me) or running (for others) increases longevity.

Another important point in this Article is that you do not see increased wear and tear in your body. So it is possible to run into your 60s, 70s, 80s and even 90s.

So lace up those shoes and get out there. AND BY THE WAY, if you live in Western Kentucky, on October 6, 2008, Injuryboard and Daryl T. Dixon Law will be running to put an End to Federal Preemption. Early Morning Kentucky Bus and Dump Truck Crash Leaves One Dead, a Dozen Injured

An early morning Kentucky Bus and Dump Truck Crash near Falmouth Kentucky in Pendleton County has left One Dead. Twelve more have been taken to the Hospital in nearby Grant County. 10 Children and both drivers are being treated for what appeared to be Minor Injuries.

State Police did not say at this point what caused the Kentucky Bus and Dump Truck Crash.
